Please don't go summer!

So tomorrow is the last day of August and in a feeble attempt savor the last days of summer we couldn't help hurrying home today to jump in the pool in this rare 90 degree weather.  We wanted to try and get in a couple more family swims before we have to close up the pool for the year. As much as I wasn't too big on getting the pool this year I caved to daddy's pleas of how the pool would be a great way thing to have in our big backyard and not to mention that we could do our own form of aqua therapy for Lucas at home.  I guess I should listen to my husband more often because him and Lucas love being in the pool hanging out together and splashing all over!

So simple but yet so true!

This was too beautiful to not share with all our friends and family that keep tabs on Lucas. I think you will all agree that these words are very true and that amazing little kiddos can teach us all so much.

Go Lucas and His Mighty Warriors!

It's a happy day!

As is usually the case Lucas has therapy two times a day on Tuesday's, he has OT and DT and it sure is hard for working parents to make all of these sessions.  The good thing is that Lucas has some awesome therapists who accommodate my schedule at times and also send me photos, notes, emails, etc. to keep me and Carlos in the loop or what our weekly homework is.  Lucky Lucas, huh?

Well before our little man began a day of play and hard work he got to spend some quality time with mom! He even through me for a loop and began clapping on his own after weeks of me trying to teach him to clap his own hands and not mine.  I guess it is true that kids will do things in their own time.

Lucas clapping and liking the noise his hands make!

This is Lucas in the infant room at the daycare waiting for Ms. Emily to arrive and get him working.  At least he got some fun in with the toys and a little socializing with his friends before the hard work!

Birthday's and more birthday's in Michigan!

One of our favorite things to do is spend as much time together as we can together as a family.  This weekend really allowed us to do that since we went to Michigan, with our Chicago cousins for a triple birthday party! Lucas is becoming a regular fixture on the party scene that's for sure! :)  We were so happy to help James celebrate turning 5 years old and cheering on Isaiah and Mariah as they turned 2 years old. It all went down in Nashville, MI at Mooville where we even got Lucas to enjoy the farm animals. He wasn't even scared!

Grandma did good on the party cake which was a bunch of cupcakes to make a gumball machine!

"Mommy had me laughing at the party! She was telling me a funny joke!"

"I was even so good they gave me my own cupcake!"

"I even was hangin' with my cousin James Ellis petting the horse! It was soooo soft!"

In addition to the party we got to spend some fun time with family we don't always get to see and like usual it was a fun and crazy time! I think Lucas was in awe at all the little people running and screaming around the house!  He can't wait to join them but in the meantime he enjoys being held and snuggled.

Catching up this week

Where does the time go? I mean I have always been a busy person with a million things going but this surely takes the case.  I have neglected the blog but rest assure that I have been snapping wonderful photos of Lucas and his antics! Enjoy.

These first photos are us in the morning before we got our day started and Lucas got to visit with his buddies at daycare.

Striking a pose at daycare! Thanks Kristin!

Here are some photos of us at this week's doctor visit and of course it was no different than past visits since now Lucas has discovered a love for the white paper! (Sorry Dr. Cheng!)

"I really do love this stuff!"

"Where did it go?"

"Hmmm, mommy knows where it went!"

Just enjoying being a mommy

So today we had a few minutes before a busy day so I decided we needed to have some fun playing with toys. Just like a true boy I think Lucas is beginning to enjoy playing with cars or else he just likes all the different colors they come in! Either way I think it is so cute when he has his favorite toys that get him excited and motivated.  In addition to some fun in the morning we also got to enjoy some special time before bed with our new favorite app by Duck Duck Moose, it's their version of "The Wheels on the Bus" which Lucas seems to love moving to and playing with since it is interactive.

Playing with his cars while mom gets ready for work

"Oh yeah I love this app!"

"The wheels on the bus go round and round..."

"Wait mom, is that you singing in the iPad?
Since Lucas was so inquisitive with this app today somehow he switched it to sing in French and while I was trying to figure out how to put it back to English I saw that the app gave you the ability to record your own voice singing.  So of course I could not resist! I think I completely through Lucas off since he gave the look above after staring at the iPad forever trying to figure out how my voice was coming out of that thing!!  I think he quickly got over it though since he shortly went back to playing with the app.

"I like the way mom sings about the wipers on the bus going swish, swish, swish..."

Love this!

I happened to see this online and could not resist to put it on my blog since it's words are so beautiful and true! I love what this says and could not agree more.

He completes us!

I know that me and my husband are not the best parents out there and I know we are still getting this down but one thing I can say is that we sure do try our hardest to be the best we can for Lucas. There isn't a moment that doesn't go by where we aren't thinking about him and his well being.  Today was no exception since we spent the whole day together having fun and enjoying one another. Great family weekend together! There is nothing we wouldn't do for the little child that completes us and makes us a family!

Another park, another swing and of course another smile!

Work hard, play hard

One of the many things I have grown to admire in my dear little Lucas is how hard he works and his determination to try new things.  You might say well all babies are full of wonder and amazement to try new things and learn, but there is something so very special about watching Lucas grow up and learn and try new things.  It is magical and so exciting to watch.  I find myself eager to watch his every move or action so that I don't miss a thing because I want to experience it all and not miss one thing my little love does.  I know that is one reason I work on this blog so that I can celebrate him, his life and his many accomplishments.  I cannot wait to see how wonderful and beautiful his life will be.

As we've mentioned below we have various therapy sessions every week and today we had both Speech and Physical Therapy.  So that means Lucas was working hard and playing hard today! I was happy to have been a part of it and cheer him on.  I think one of the best parts is when I get to sing "You are my sunshine" or "The wheels on the bus" during his treadmill training which allows him to forget he is working and concentrate on mommy's funny sounding voice and face expressions! Ha! Bless his little heart for paying so much attention to mom!

So our morning started off bright an early with Laura our Speech Therapist to begin working on drinking from the Honey Bear cup, working on drinking from a straw, drinking from an open cup and munching on crackers! Mom could not have been more proud of her little man. Once again he rocked it even if he had to sit in the odd looking little high chair!

Sitting in the high chair like a big boy

Waiting for what Laura has up her sleeve

"Oh yum, she has crackers!"

"And now a straw and a cup that looks like a bear?"

"Wow, what is this weird thing?"

"Well I will just go for it since I see water in it!" (Slurp, Slurp)

So after Lucas had a break from the morning and got a nap in his energy levels were back and ready to work with Sammy for his PT session.  He got to focus on rolling over, 4 point, arm work and wearing both his hip helpers and binder.  I gotta say that Lucas was looking great. It is just amazing to see his development in the last couple of months! Here is one shot from today's session before we hit the treadmill.

Easy does it! Now he is ready to rock back and forth!

Seeing as Lucas worked so hard today we decided to head out to downtown Glen Ellyn and have dinner at 2 Toots.  Wow was this place a treat? Lucas got to sit in a booster chair up at the counter and got a kick out of watching the train circle around the counter dropping off people's food orders! He was also really enjoying the music and did a little dancing in his chair! Needless to say we will be going back to this place for more food and fun.  I think the highlight for Lucas was nibbling on some french fries tonight!

Mommy and Daddy brought me out to eat because I was a good boy and worked super hard today!

Take me out to the ball game....

So today Lucas got to experience his very first professional baseball game and got to watch the Chicago Cubs beat up on the Houston Astros.  It was an awesome day for a ballgame and Lucas managed to stay awake until the 7th inning stretch.  What made today even a little more special was that we got to be at the game with our family and many friends from Gigi's Playhouse! We could not have asked for a better day to be out at Wrigley!  Lucas was really getting into the game and at one point I could have swore I heard him singing the words..."Go Cubs Go..." or maybe he was humming? Ha! In any case he had an awesome time!
